Coach Mike Zimmer has indicated that Loadholt will have surgery Friday to repair the muscle. The injury by the way did not prevent Loadholt from participating in his charity bowling event earlier this week.
Webb rejoins the Vikings after working out along with former Texans offensive tackle Eric Winston.
A seventh round pick in 2010 out of West Texas A&M, the 6-7 333 pound Webb played three seasons for the Bears before signing with the Vikings in 2013. He spent some time with the Kansas City Chiefs earlier this year before being cut.
The Vikings figure to go with Mike Harris at right tackle in place of Loadholt, at least initially, but Webb will be there if they need someone else in a pinch.
Minnesota has now lost both their starting right tackle and their starting right guard, having watched Brandon Fusco go down early in the year with a torn pectoral of his own.
Webb is nobody’s idea of a legitimate Loadholt replacement but right now the Vikings are just looking for people who can take the field and hopefully not embarrass themselves or get Teddy Bridgewater killed.
Bridgewater has faced a lot of pressure this year thanks to a porous offensive line but he’s been able to function pretty well in spite of it.
The bigger concern perhaps is the running game, which has been much more effective going to Loadholt’s side the last couple of years. With Loadholt and Fusco both gone, that running game is bound to see a drop off in production.
