Teddy Bridgewater Not Among 3 Finalists for Offensive Rookie of the Year

Yesterday Teddy Bridgewater received a nice honor, being named Pepsi Rookie of the Year, an award voted on by the fans. That performance was not repeated at tonight’s NFL Honors as Giants WR Odell Beckham Jr. was given Offensive Rookie of the Year over Bridgewater (and a bunch of other people).

Not only was Bridgewater denied the “real” OROY award, he didn’t even finish in the final three. Bridgewater didn’t bother to attend the ceremony so he probably had some inkling that he was not going to be close.

A lot of folks thought it was down to Beckham or Bridgewater for OROY, but it wasn’t. Both Zack Martin and Mike Evans received more votes from AP writers than Bridgewater.

Teddy can take this as a diss if he wants and use it for extra motivation. Or he can ignore tonight’s result and cherish his fan-bestowed Pepsi ROY award.

The lack of hardware from tonight’s NFL Honors does not diminish what Bridgewater accomplished in 2014. He gave an amazing performance through a ton of adversity and made believers of a lot of Viking fans who had previously been down in the dumps about their team.

Bridgewater may have finished outside the top 3 in OROY tonight but he’s still #1 in Purple Nation. And we can’t wait to see what he will do in 2015.
