The release of each new Todd McShay/Mel Kiper mock draft is greeted with tremendous joy by bloggers who are hard-up for high-click-potential material. So you can imagine my happiness at the unveiling of McShay’s second mock draft of the offseason (only available to ESPNInsider subscribers).

I just wish there was something monumental, earth-shattering or at least mildly surprising to report about McShay’s pick for the Vikings. But it’s a pretty straight-forward pick. He has the purple taking DeVante Parker.

McShay explains (via ESPN):

"Analysis: The Vikings need help on the offensive line, but Parker would make a lot of sense here. They need to surround second-year QB Teddy Bridgewater with more weapons, and Parker was Bridgewater’s top target at Louisville. Parker would become Minnesota’s tallest receiver at 6-foot-2 1/2, and he displays very good body control and competitiveness when the ball is in the air to go along with his size. He had a very productive season in 2014 after returning from injury (855 receiving yards in just seven games, 19.9 yards per catch)."

If early mocks decided the draft, this one would already be over. Parker is the consensus pick for the Vikings as of now. But of course we haven’t even gone through the combine or pro days or any of that yet. It’s very very early. A lot could change. And will.

(Pssst…if you want to see the whole mock but don’t want to pay for ESPN Insider, I’ve heard you can have a peek here. But don’t tell anyone.)
