A report via Scout.com says they are.
Citing league sources, Scout.com’s Gil Arcia says the Buccaneers have had internal discussions about trading for Peterson. The Bucs’ Peterson plan is described as “aggressive.”
The Bucs in recent days have cleared some cap space by moving on from high-priced veterans Anthony Collins, Michael Johnson and Dashon Goldson. Peterson has indicated that he would willingly restructure his contract in order to facilitate a trade.
Whether the Bucs now have enough space to make a move on Peterson, restructure or no, is an open question.
Speculation about potential landing spots for Peterson has tended to center on places like Arizona and Dallas, but Tampa Bay has been thrown out there as well.
It’s natural to assume that Peterson’s connection to current Buccaneers DC Leslie Frazier would play a part in all this. Peterson expressed strong support for Frazier after he was fired as Vikings head coach.
For the record, Peterson has also been vocal in expressing his respect for current Vikings head coach Mike Zimmer. Peterson’s feelings about certain other people in the Vikings organization may not be so positive.
Peterson’s situation can currently best be described as murky after yet another meeting with Vikings brass, this time in New York.
If the Vikings do trade Peterson, it’s believed he would fetch no more than a fourth round pick. Though it’s necessary to point out that Rick Spielman has been pretty successful in squeezing more than expected out of such trades in the past.
Ideally, the Vikings would make no move to trade Peterson until DeMarco Murray has made up his mind about where he wants to go. Getting Dallas involved in bidding for Peterson would do nothing but help the Vikings’ position.
