Sid Hartman Reckons Christian Ponder Can Unseat Derek Carr in Oakland
By Dan Zinski
When Christian Ponder left the Vikings to sign a free agent deal with the Oakland Raiders, the assumption among most people was that Ponder would have no shot to unseat starter Derek Carr.

And then there’s Sid Hartman who thinks Ponder has a chance to be the #1 guy in Oakland this year. This is classic stuff (via Minneapolis Star-Tribune):
"Ponder will be reunited with former Vikings offensive coordinator Bill Musgrave, who really believed in the QB’s potential and was with him when he led the Vikings into the 2012 playoffs before injuring his arm and missing the 24-10 loss to Green Bay in an NFC wild-card matchup.Musgrave might even think Ponder has a chance to start over incumbent Derek Carr, who didn’t exactly set the world on fire last year with a 58.1 completion percentage, 21 touchdowns and 12 interceptions for a 76.6 QB rating. The local media that was on Ponder’s back for four years might get a surprise."
Ponder’s once-large legion of clueless defenders has now been whittled down to one. And that one happens to be the elder statesman of Twin Cities sports writers.
Hartman’s take of course is not worth picking apart, since it’s not really based on logic or even conscious awareness, but I did want to make note of it for comedic purposes.
It’s also hilarious that Hartman continues sticking it to his mates in the Twin Cities media who figured out long ago that Ponder was trash. Yeah, they’re going to get a surprise. Your guy is finally going to prove all the haters wrong. Just give him time.
Never change, Sid.
