Adrian Peterson: Vikings star gets rousing reception from fans (Video)

It’s all good between Adrian Peterson and Viking Nation.

Any lingering worries Peterson might have had about how he would be received by fans were put to bed Saturday when the running back reported to Vikings training camp in Mankato to a chorus of cheers and people decked out in purple chanting his name.

Dressed in a white t-shirt, a beaming Peterson took a moment to sign autographs outside the Vikings training camp facility before heading inside to report for duty.

And why shouldn’t Peterson beam with happiness after signing a restructured contract that guarantees him $13 million for 2015 and more down the road?

Fans are thrilled to have their favorite running back in the fold once again. Peterson is happy to have the financial security he sought during his long and sometimes farcical offseason game of chicken with Rick Spielman and the Vikings.

With camp beginning, all minds are on the hopeful future and not the rocky past.

Nobody’s thinking about Adrian Peterson getting arrested for whipping his son with a switch. They’re not dwelling on Peterson’s remarks about feeling uncomfortable in Minnesota, remarks that many fans once took as a slight (I guess they got over it).

Those fans standing behind the barricades at Mankato as Peterson approached, the conquering hero in his Armor of God, cared only about celebration. Adrian Peterson and Ben Dogra’s ridiculous, humiliating offseason antics were the furthest thing from their minds.

They had forgotten all about Peterson’s sometimes delusional statements, his endless casting of himself as a victim. They had forgotten about phone calls to Jerry Jones. Camel rides. Twitter rants.

As far as those fans are concerned, none of that stuff ever happened. There may be other fans out there who are not as ready to embrace Peterson, but you wouldn’t have known it Saturday as Peterson marched into Mankato like a god.
