The 6-1, 200 pound Whalen appeared in 17 games over three seasons with Cincinnati, mostly as a special teams performer. As a receiver, Whalen has 11 career receptions for 80 yards and 0 TDs.
The former Stanford Cardinal was waived by the Bengals in August of 2014 and spent the season out of the NFL. The addition of Whalen brings the Vikings’ roster up to the 90-man limit.
Mr. Whalen wasted no time in reporting to Vikings training camp and suiting up.
Whalen of course played in Cincinnati when Mike Zimmer was there as DC.
For Mr. Whalen’s sake, I hope he lasts longer than Mays and Crocker. But the truth is he has very little chance of sticking with the team.
Hopefully by today they will get him a name on the back of his jersey.
As far as I know Ryan is not related to Minnesota Lynx player Lindsay Whalen.
