Former Packers TE Brandon Bostick is one of two players reported to be among the Vikings’ early cuts as they slowly whittle their roster down to 75 ahead of Tuesday’s deadline.

Despite running for 26 yards and a touchdown in Saturday’s preseason game against the Cowboys, Joe Banyard is the other man who reportedly has been let go.

Neither cut should be a huge surprise given the depth at each man’s position.

Bostick of course was given the goat label after fumbling an onside kick late in the Packers’ stunning collapse vs. the Seahawks in last year’s NFC title game.

Bostick was very stand-up about his gaffe in that game, but the Packers still decided to cut him. The Vikings had no qualms about bringing Bostick in and giving him a shot.

Bostick’s chance of sticking with the team was slim to begin with, and that chance went from slim to almost non-existent after the team drafted MyCole Pruitt.

With Kyle Rudolph, Rhett Ellison, Chase Ford and Pruitt on the roster, Bostick must have known his prospects for remaining a Viking were not too great.

By cutting Bostick early, the Vikings give him a better chance to maybe catch on with another team.

Joe Banyard was in a slightly different situation than Bostick in that he had experience with the offense and was in a position to legitimately compete for a spot coming into the preseason.

However, as preseason wore on it became clear that Banyard was falling behind at running back. Dominique Williams saw his role becoming more prominent while Banyard faded.

With these cuts, plus the Cullen Loeffler release last week, the Vikings are down to 87 men. More cuts are coming ahead of Tuesday.

And the Vikings could move to pick up a veteran backup player cut by another team somewhere along the way.

Also reportedly cut by the Vikings today: WR DaVaris Daniels, WR Jordan Leslie, CB Justin Coleman and CB DeMarcus Van Dyke.

Update: The Vikings just announced the following cuts in addition to the ones reported elsewhere:

CB Jalil Carter

T Stephen Goodin

LB Josh Kaddu

WR Jordan Leslie

DE Caesar Rayford

DT Chrishon Rose

The Vikings are now at 78 players.
