Minnesota Vikings coach Mike Zimmer said on Monday that starting center and team rock John Sullivan would probably get back on the field Tuesday after missing several weeks of practice plus the last few preseason games.
But when the media showed up for the portion of Tuesday practice open to reporters: no John Sullivan. His back spasms are not clearing up.
We are now getting dangerously close to the point where John Sullivan will not be able to suit up for Monday night’s opener against the black-clad San Francisco 49ers.
If Sullivan can’t go it will be the ever-reliable Joe Berger starting in his place. The Vikings prepared for the No Sullivan scenario by carrying center Zac Kerin on the roster when they cut down to 53.

So at least the Vikings have someone to back up the center position if God forbid Joe Berger goes down too.
Not to be that guy but, the way things have been going, it wouldn’t shock me if Berger went down with a torn pec or something in the first quarter.
That’s how it’s been for the Vikings offensive line since the start of last season. After a long period of relative stability, they can’t keep the same five guys together.
