Vikings TE David Morgan poised for a bigger role in 2017
By Adam Carlson
Tight end David Morgan may in store for a much bigger role in the Minnesota Vikings offense when looking ahead to the 2017 NFL season.
The Minnesota Vikings will look different on offense during the 2017 NFL season. Several regular faces to the team have moved on in free agency and new ones have taken their place. However, changes can even come with players already on the roster.
With Rhett Ellison moving on to the New York Giants and MyCole Pruitt landing on the Chicago Bears roster, this could be the best chance for tight end David Morgan to slide into a bigger role and showcase his skills.
Recently, Viking Update on Scout.com spoke about the situation involving Morgan and how he may be poised for more action during the upcoming season.

"“Without Rhett Ellison, David Morgan will see more time. So, too, will an expected draft pick. But Morgan had a year to be slowly immersed into the lineup without the pressure to do it all. This year, without Ellison or Zach Line (still a free agent that could be signed later), Morgan should get the opportunity to explore a bigger role as a move tight end/H-back.”"
During 2016, Morgan had only one catch for 4 yards. However, he was involved in more plays as a blocker in the run game or screen passes. He saw action in 12 total games in his rookie campaign and will likely be the #2 option unless the team uses a high draft pick on the position.
Morgan is a sneaky pass catching option in combination with being a solid run blocker. This could make him a great option as either a tight end or a fullback going forward.

It will be interesting to see how the Minnesota Vikings view David Morgan heading into the 2017 NFL season. If they see him as a potential long-term answer, they may not use a top pick at the position. However, if one of their day 2 picks is a tight end, Morgan will have to go back to fighting for snaps.
