Minnesota Vikings: Top 5 cut day takeaways
By Josh Clarke
Is the Vikings roster complete?
You may think after cutting 37 players over the course of 2 days the Viking’s front office staff deserve a well-deserved break. That break will have to wait as good personnel departments don’t take days off, especially when 1184 free agents have just became available many of which could improve Minnesota’s roster. I’ll leave Rick Spielman and his scouting staff to browse all 1184 names but below are a few names who I think could be worth consideration.

In one of the most surprising moves around the league the Denver Broncos parted company with 3 time Pro Bowl Strong Safety T.J Ward. The prospect of Ward lining up next to Harrison Smith may have had fans salivating but the Buccaneers managed to secure his signature at lightning speed.
Kai Forbath and Ryan Quigley may have both won their positional battles to remain on the roster but neither player did so convincingly. Kicker Nick Novak was released by the Houston Texans in favour of a younger option and whilst the 36-year-old might not a long-term answer he offers more consistency and leg power than Forbath. Punter Andy Lee faced a similar situation in Carolina but had an average punt length of 49.1 yards in 2016 compared to Quigley’s 41.6. On recent performance alone Lee must certainly be worth a look compared to the Vikings incumbent.
Jonathan Williams, formerly of the Bills, and his violent rushing style would offer a different variation of running compared to the backs currently on the Vikings roster, especially after he impressed against them in the first preseason game.
Whilst Jeremy Kerley wouldn’t represent an upgrade over Minnesota’s starting receivers, he had 10 times more receiving yards than Jarius Wright in 2016 and could arguably be a cheaper veteran back up option.
By the time you read this some of the players mentioned above may have already been snapped up but there are plenty of others out there who could contribute to the Minnesota Vikings in 2017.
