The Minnesota Vikings do not have a quarterback controversy, at least not yet

What could possibly happen if the Minnesota Vikings have to choose between quarterbacks at any point during the 2017 season?

After his second straight start for the Minnesota Vikings, quarterback Case Keenum restored the faith in the team possibly having a good season this year after many thought the sky was falling when Sam Bradford hurt his knee. Yes, Case Keenum is the one who did that.

During Minnesota’s Week 3 win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Keenum ended up with statistics that a person would normally finish with when playing Madden on a rookie difficulty level. 369 passing yards and three touchdowns? C’mon, he cannot perform at that high of a level for two weeks in a row.

But what if he does?

What if Keenum leads the Vikings to a win over the Detroit Lions in Week 4 and finishes with over 300 passing yards and at least two touchdown passes again? And then what if he has a similar performance again in Week 5 against the Chicago Bears and helps Minnesota get only their second win in Chicago since 2008?

Then the Vikings might have a decision to make. Would they roll with the quarterback who has been leading them to wins or would they just insert Bradford back under center when he is healthy no matter what?

More from The Viking Age

Now, the scenario of Keenum performing at a high level for three straight weeks may seem a little far fetched for some. But since this is the Vikings we are talking about, this actually happening and a quarterback controversy being created out of it seems like something that is very possible given the team’s history.

Oh and if things did not seem easy enough for Minnesota, Teddy Bridgewater could possibly be healthy enough to come off of the Physically Unable to Perform List in Week 7. So the Vikings could go from having an undrafted rookie quarterback in Kyle Sloter be one hit away from playing in his first NFL action, to having to choose from three viable options to start under center by the middle of the season.

Whatever does end up happening, it will just be another “normal” occurrence in the world of Minnesota Vikings football (insert Bart Scott “can’t wait!” meme here).
