There is a ton of speculation about which quarterbacks the Minnesota Vikings will pursue this offseason to bring in for the 2026 NFL season. The range of names being thrown out there seems random, but the team will need to make some kind of decision on the position.
Whether or not Vikings fans still believe that J.J. McCarthy is the quarterback of the future for the franchise, everyone should agree that the purple and gold can't have a repeat of their quarterback struggles from the 2025 season.
It is that time of year when NFL buzz is at full volume. The 2026 NFL Scouting Combine is a place where there is a lot of chatter as well as opportunities to gather information about what to expect from teams during the 2026 NFL Draft, as well as possible free agency moves.
There is quite a bit of buzz at the 2026 NFL Scouting Combine about what the Minnesota Vikings could do at quarterback this offseason.
In an article on the ESPN website, two insiders discussed the hype surrounding potential quarterbacks heading to new teams this offseason. That conversation included a discussion of what the Minnesota Vikings might be planning for the position.
Dan Graziano was up first. Although he made it clear that the Vikings aren't ready to give up on McCarthy, they aren't ready to hand him the keys to the offense for the 2026 NFL season. He cites that this could be an odd offseason for quarterbacks and lists some of the passers who have been associated with Minnesota lately.
Geno Smith, Kyler Murray, Joe Flacco, Kirk Cousins, and Aaron Rodgers were all named in the article as experienced options to explore. However, the addition of unproven quarterbacks like Tanner McKee, Davis Mills, and Anthony Richardson were also mentioned as possible options to come to the team.
It will be interesting to see if the purple and gold go with an established veteran or a high-potential younger passer this offseason. That decision will go a long way in revealing how the Vikings currently feel about their quarterback position, with J.J. McCarthy still needing development and growth.
Jeremy Fowler then added his observations to the article. In addition to some of the names listed by Graziano, there were a couple of surprises. Including Tua Tagovailoa, along with options like Kyler Murray, Kirk Cousins, and Geno Smith, is interesting, especially given the history between Tagovailoa and Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores.
There are a ton of options available for the Minnesota Vikings at quarterback this offseason, but finding the right mix of experience, potential, and cost will be paramount for an organization attempting to remain relevant in an extremely challenging NFC North division.
