Seeing Jalen Nailor leave the Minnesota Vikings for the Las Vegas Raiders in free agency is frustrating. The speedy young wide receiver was a great contributor for the purple and gold, particularly in 2025 when the 26-year-old posted career-high numbers in targets, receptions, and receiving yards.
Nailor's exit leaves a hole in the Vikings' offense. Behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, he was the third wide receiver option. Now, Minnesota will have to search for a player to take his spot in the depth chart.
The team would likely love Tai Felton to step into that role. Another speedy player, Felton, is on his rookie deal and has shown some potential, but it would be foolish to expect him to take the next step when he is still so young and inexperienced in the league.
When it comes to the WR3 spot for the Minnesota Vikings, K.J. Osborn is open to returning
A particular former Minnesota Vikings wide receiver is well aware of the team's situation heading into the 2026 NFL season.
Now 28 years old, K.J. Osborn spent some time with the New England Patriots and Washington Commanders, but it looking for a new team as a free agent.
Recently, Osborn spoke on the Caps Off podcast about his search for a new team for the upcoming season and his observation that he could help the Vikings if he returns to Minnesota this offseason.
“You can’t help but look at Minnesota… that spot (WR 3) is back open.”
K.J. Osborn played his first four NFL seasons with the Vikings. Despite not seeing an offensive snap as a rookie, the former fifth-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft had a great stretch of three seasons in Minnesota.
During those three years, he played 2,468 offensive snaps for 158 receptions, 1,845 yards, and 15 touchdowns.
The purple and gold could do a lot worse than bringing Osborn back to contribute in Minnesota.
Since the team brought in Kyler Murray to be the quarterback in 2026, bringing up the floor of the receiver room would be smart, especially since they wouldn't have to force Tai Felton into a bigger role than he is prepared for.
Depending on the contract size, the Minnesota Vikings should consider looking into acquiring K.J. Osborn as a free agent this offseason.
There is already some interest from Osborn, so the job is already halfway done.
