It would be difficult to find a player in today's NFL that has no haters. For new Minnesota Vikings quarterback Kyler Murray, those haters are definitely out there. Whether it is jokes about his height or his love for playing Call of Duty, he has been under a microscope since being the No. 1 overall pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft.
Now that the Cardinals have moved on from Murray and he signed with the Vikings, it will be interesting to see how he fares with Minnesota's roster and staff. A great performance could help to silence at least some of those critics.
Although it is said to be a quarterback competition between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy for the purple and gold's starting role this season, few believe that head coach Kevin O'Connell will opt to start the former University of Michigan signal caller over Murray.
There are differing opinions on how quarterback Kyler Murray will perform with the Minnesota Vikings during the 2026 NFL season.
Sometimes it is nice to see some positive words about teams and players. That is exactly what Bucky Brooks shared in an article on the FOX Sports website when breaking down some of the quarterback battles around the league, including the battle between Kyler Murray and J.J. McCarthy for the Minnesota Vikings.
Brooks says that Murray is the best fit to start for the Vikings and gave some big praise to the 28-year-old quarterback.
"The former Pro Bowler is the most talented quarterback KOC has coached in Minnesota. As an electric dual-threat playmaker, Murray adds an explosive dimension to the offense as a big-play weapon who can produce highlight-reel-worthy plays inside and outside the pocket."
Saying that Murray is the most talented quarterback that Kevin O'Connell has coached in Minnesota is a hefty statement. The 2024 Coach of the Year has worked with some very good passers while with the Vikings, including veteran Kirk Cousins and Sam Darnold, who recently won a Super Bowl with the Seattle Seahawks.
But Brooks is right that Kyler Murray brings a great blend of talent and athleticism to the Minnesota Vikings. His ability, combined with the rest of the talent on the roster, could be a great fit that helps to lead the purple and gold to the postseason. There is a reason Murray was the No. 1 overall pick in 2019, and he will have a chance to showcase that potential under Kevin O'Connell.
