There's always a special buzz when training camp for the Minnesota Vikings and the rest of the NFL gets underway, as fans of every franchise rejoice in knowing that football is finally back and the start of the regular season isn't far away.
As such, plenty of teams use this time of year to capitalize on that excitement by unveiling the alternate uniforms and helmets they'll wear at certain points during the season. Yes, it's obviously a way to sell more jerseys and such, but it's still an entertaining process.
On Thursday, the Vikings joined in on the fun, announcing that the team will wear a pair of different alternate uniforms over the course of three home games at U.S. Bank Stadium during the 2025 season, rolling with the "Vikings Classic" throwbacks twice while also bringing back the popular "Winter Warrior" ensemble they rolled out late last year.
Minnesota Vikings announce uniform schedule for 2025 NFL season
The "Vikings Classic" uniforms will be worn in Weeks 2 and 18
The "Vikings Classic," of course, is designed similarly to some of Minnesota's earliest uniforms. The jersey's shade of purple is much darker than the modern version, the numbers are larger with slab serif fonts and gold trim, and the sleeves feature the classic stripes.
The pants feature a vertical gold stripe bordered by purple stripes, a design worn by the team for the first 45 years of its existence.
The helmet includes the vintage horn, but the older version is a touch longer, and incldues grey facemasks.
The "Vikings Classic" will first be worn in Minnesota's home opener in Week 2 on Sunday Night Football against the Atlanta Falcons and again in the regular-season finale in Week 18 against the rival Green Bay Packers.
The Vikings are 1-2 in this ensemble thus far, losing to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Chicago Bears in 2023 and defeating the Houston Texans last season.
The "Winter Warrior" will be worn on Christmas Day against the Detroit Lions
The "Winter Warrior" is the all-white outfit Minnesota debuted late last season, beating the Bears in Week 15 by a score of 30-12.
The white helmets will look a little different this year, however, as they'll feature a metallic stripe in the center, which was designed to be an interpretation of the metal strips used in Viking battle helmets.
The Vikings get the perfect opportunity to showcase the "Winter Warrior" this year, as they'll sport the head-to-toe white look on Christmas Day against the Detroit Lions.
