Following the retirement of tight end Ben Ellefson on Thursday, the Minnesota Vikings didn't waste any time filling his roster spot as they have reportedly signed former North Dakota wide receiver Garett Maag, according to The Draft Network's Ryan Fowler.

New Minnesota Vikings WR Garett Maag has some intriguing athletic traits

Last season at the University of North Dakota, Maag didn't really blow anyone away with his stats, as he finished with 41 catches for 540 yards and five touchdowns. But his potential to develop into a solid contributor down the road is likely what intrigued the Vikings.

Maag has impressive size at 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, and during the pre-draft process, his testing numbers, including a 40.5-inch vertical, resulted in an 8.53 Relative Athletic Score (based on a scale of 0 to 10).

His chances of making Minnesota's final 2023 roster are currently pretty low, considering how many receivers are already ahead of him on the team's depth chart.

But if Maag is able to put together some impressive performances during OTAs and this year's training camp, he could possibly sneak onto the Vikings' final roster. At the very least, however, he certainly has the potential for Minnesota to keep him on their practice squad this year.
