Mission Accomplished for Bobby Wade

AUTHOR: danzinski | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 22 Comments

Bobby Wade was not simply making idle chit-chat when he revealed Brian Urlacher’s feelings about Jay Cutler – he was deliberately trying to stir things up.  And he succeeded.  I know because, two days out from the whole affair, stories are still being posted about how it’s not a big deal, and everything’s fine between Urlacher and Cutler, and Bobby Wade is just a lying idiot who is going to get hit in the face somewhere down the road.
Of course I’m not suggesting this is a big distraction for the Bears or anything; I’m just saying I think it’s hilarious [...]

Vikings Forced to Issue Vick Denials

AUTHOR: danzinski | IN: Rumors, Vikings | COMMENTS: 21 Comments

Reports issuing forth from the mouth of Fox Sports’ Chris Myers have touched off a round of new quarterback-related chaos in Minnesota.  And it’s not Brett Favre in the middle this time – it’s Michael Vick.
The fun got started this afternoon when Myers said on the radio that the Vikings had made inquiries to the league about Vick’s status, and specifically, what the chances were that he might be allowed to play before Week 6 when his little probation period is scheduled to expire.  Reporters had no choice but to bring the report up during the team’s first official training [...]

Harvin's Agent Planning a Hold-Out?

AUTHOR: danzinski | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Vikings players have all reported for training camp – except first-round draft pick Percy Harvin, who remains unsigned.  If you believe Mike Florio’s latest bit of speculation, Harvin’s absence could be a protracted one.
Florio points out that the players drafted directly before and after Harvin have both signed, meaning it should be easy to work out a number, get the contract inked and get the wide receiver in camp.  But, Florio also points out, Harvin’s agent Joel Segal may be looking to squeeze the Vikings for extra money, given that Harvin was drafted well below what his talent indicated.
“Harvin is [...]

Udeze Retires

AUTHOR: danzinski | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 2 Comments

Kenechi Udeze had hoped to make a return to football after missing a year to battle leukemia, but lingering physical issues have forced the former first-round draft pick to call it a career.
Udeze reportedly made his decision after struggling through minicamp practices, hindered by post-chemo neuropathy.  He was also apparently having issues with his weight.  He will now devote himself full-time to his on-going recovery and charitable endeavors on behalf of cancer research.
In four years with the Vikes, three in which he started all 16 games, Udeze amassed 11 sacks.  Fans may unfortunately recall the infamous sack goose-egg he put [...]

Tommie Harris Calls Bobby Wade a Liar

AUTHOR: danzinski | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 4 Comments

Bobby Wade told Paul Allen on KFAN earlier today that Brian Urlacher thinks new Bears quarterback Jay Cutler is a word that rhymes with “wussy.”  Certain Bears players aren’t convinced Urlacher ever said this though, or at least are doing a good job of pretending they don’t think he did.  Tommie Harris, for instance, tweeted this at PFT’s Mike Florio, the man who broke the p-word story in the first place:
lac [Urlacher] didn’t say that u guys are full of it and tell bobby Wade will see about that…..
Oh, so Tommie Harris thinks Bobby Wade is a lair?  Maybe Tommie [...]

Bobby Wade: Urlacher Thinks Cutler is a "Pussy"

AUTHOR: danzinski | IN: Vikings | COMMENTS: 10 Comments

Jay Cutler apparently has some work to do, to prove to his new Bears teammates that he’s a man of mettle and not a, well, pussy.
This negative impression of Cutler among some Bears players has come to light thanks to Vikings receiver Bobby Wade, who took to KFAN this morning to relate a little anecdote.  Seems Wade took a trip to Vegas this off-season with his former teammate Brian Urlacher, and during said trip, Cutler came up in the conversation.  Urlacher’s impression of Cutler?  He’s a p-word.
It is hilarious that Urlacher feels that way about Cutler, especially given the whining, [...]

Loadholt Signed

AUTHOR: danzinski | IN: Breaking News, Vikings | COMMENTS: 1 Comment

Now that the summer’s nonsense is out of the way, it’s back to sane, regular football business for the Vikings.  This includes locking up first-round draft picks, a process that got 50% closer to completion Wednesday when the team announced the signing of right tackle Phil Loadholt, terms not disclosed.
Loadholt, a behemoth out of Oklahoma, is expected to take hold of the starting right tackle position, giving the Vikings massive bookend blockers (provided Bryant McKinnie doesn’t go funny in the head between now and the start of the season).  Of course there’s always the chance Loadholt could flop, forcing us [...]
