What does Adrian Peterson think he can get from the Vikings by refusing to show up for OTAs, forfeiting $250,000 in workout bonus money in the process?

Peterson’s agent Ben Dogra recently seemed to throw in the towel on trying to force a trade, turning instead to pressuring the Vikings into giving Peterson more guaranteed money. But it appears Peterson is not yet ready to give up on the trade dream.
Charles Robinson of Yahoo! Sports reports that, according to one “long-time Peterson confidante,” the running back is sending a message by sitting out, and that message is that he wants to be traded.
The problem for Peterson is that, with the draft come and gone, the Vikings have very little hope of making a deal.
A recent quote by Jerry Jones suggesting the Cowboys would be willing to trade future draft picks in order to load up for a 2015 run could be seen as offering a glimmer of hope that a Peterson deal could still be worked, but the truth is the entire idea remains very far-fetched if not outright absurd.
Assuming this “confidante” of Peterson’s isn’t another shaky source like his father Nelson, could we assume this leak is just more posturing by Peterson’s camp intended to keep pushing the Vikings toward a contract re-negotiation?
Re-negotiation itself seems unlikely with the Vikings holding all the cards. Peterson is under contract, and he will begin losing money at a startling rate once the CBA allows Minnesota to begin fining him for missing mandatory activities.
Peterson may think he’s pressuring Minnesota by sitting out OTAs and letting it out there that he wants to be traded, but I don’t think Rick Spielman will feel any push whatsoever. Once Peterson begins feeling the financial impact of a holdout, the likelihood is that he will cave in and report.
Peterson may not be a very happy player when he does report, but you have to count on him swallowing his pride and comporting himself like a professional regardless of what he feels.
