Coming into this 2025 NFL season, half of which is already now a thing of the past, by the way, it was extremely difficult to know what to make of the Minnesota Vikings, who went 14-3 last year but underwent all sorts of changes during an eventful offseason.
The most notable change, of course, came at the most important decision in sports, as the Vikes opted to move on from Sam Darnold, who had a career year that earned him a lucrative contract with the Seattle Seahawks, and handed the reins to 2024 first-round pick J.J. McCarthy, whose season-ending injury ahead of his rookie campaign paved the way for Darnold's success.
This season got off to an exciting start, as McCarthy engineered a wild fourth-quarter comeback in Week 1 to get Minnesota an improbable win over the Chicago Bears. But the second-year signal-caller fizzled in a Week 2 loss to the Atlanta Falcons, a defeat in which he suffered a high-ankle sprain that kept him sidelined for five weeks.
Carson Wentz filled in admirably, leading the Vikings to a pair of wins over their next three games, but he fizzled out as well in the Vikings' back-to-back losses in Weeks 7 and 8 and is now lost for the year with a shoulder injury. Thankfully, McCarthy was healthy enough to suit up this past Sunday and led Minnesota to an upset victory over the Detroit Lions.
After losing just three regular-season games a season ago, the Vikings naturally can't be pleased with being 4-4, but with the litany of other injuries this team has been forced to deal with, a .500 record is about the best that could be expected at this point.
With that .500 record, it makes sense why the Vikings are where they are in the updated Super Bowl 60 odds, which we thought would be fun to look at, given that we're at the midway point of the season and just a couple of days removed from the trade deadline. So, let's do just that.
The Minnesota Vikings are back in the top 20 of the Super Bowl 60 betting odds
At the conclusion of Week 8, which the Vikings kicked off by taking an embarrassing 37-10 defeat to the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday Night Football, Minnesota was going off at +15000 to win Super Bowl 60, thus putting them outside the top 20 among all teams and just 10th in the NFC.
And where do they stand now? Let's have a look.

Okay, so the Vikings haven't bumped up that much. Nonetheless, they have bumped up, now ranking in a tie for 18th overall and a tie for eighth in the NFC at +12000.
Now, is it just me, or are Bears fans likely furious that Chicago, with its 5-3 record, has the same odds? It'll certainly be interesting to see how things change after these two teams meet again in Week 11.
Look, the likelihood of the Vikings finally hoisting their first Lombardi Trophy obviously isn't great. But they did make some headway in the NFC playoff picture with the win over Detroit, as they now trail the Lions, who currently own the final wild-card slot, by just one game.
There's still a lot of football to be played this season, and if the Vikings can continue to get healthier and play the type of football this team is clearly capable of playing, anything can happen.
