Move aside DeVante Parker boosters, here comes the Trae Waynes express.

After a very impressive combine performance, Michigan State cornerback Trae Waynes is the new shiny toy NFL fans are drooling over. That includes Viking fans who can easily picture the speedy DB landing to them with the #11 overall pick.

Todd McShay in his latest mock draft (via ESPN Insider) thinks Waynes is a possibility:

"I think this pick could come down to Waynes and Louisville receiver DeVante Parker, who was Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s favorite at Louisville and a top-10 player on our board. But Minnesota really needs help at corner, so I’ll go with Waynes. He really helped himself at the combine by running a 4.31 forty-yard dash, which eliminated any concerns about his speed after showing a little bit of tightness on tape. He is a technically sound cover corner with good instincts and football character. Plus, he plays hard and isn’t afraid to show up in run support."

Sounds like a Zimmer guy if I ever heard of one.

I believe if either of the top two receivers, Amari Cooper or Kevin White, is available at 11 then the Vikings must go and get him. But if both those players are off the board I would go with the best available defensive back, whether that be Waynes or Alabama safety Landon Collins. That is my thinking as of today. Defensive back over Parker.

Here is the entire McShay mock if you don’t have Insider.
