It’s a neat thing the NFL does every year, having old time players come back to announce draft picks in the second round. Sort of a yesterday-handing-the-ball-off-to-tomorrow kind of deal.

This year, some big-time NFL legends like Dick Butkus, Jim Kelly, Mel Blount and Willie Brown will be in the house announcing picks for their respective former teams.
The Vikings won’t be represented by anyone as old-school as any of those names; instead they’ll have a fan favorite from the recent past reading their pick. Doing the honors this year for the Vikings will be former MLB E.J. Henderson.
It seems like only yesterday that Henderson was patrolling the field as the Mike sandwiched between Ben Leber and Chad Greenway. Now he’ll be taking the podium to read the Vikings’ pick in the second.
Assuming they have a pick in the second. You never know with Rick Spielman.
Interestingly enough, there’s a chance the Vikings’ old middle linebacker Henderson will get to read the name of their new middle linebacker. That is a big need position for the Vikings and many think they’ll target it in the second.
If the Vikes go MLB in the 2nd, the pick could be TCU’s Paul Dawson or Miami’s Denzel Perryman or perhaps Clemson’s Stephone Anthony.
The Vikes could also address cornerback in the second or safety or offensive line or running back or wide receiver. It’s wide open.
Whoever the Vikes pick, let’s hope his name is easy to say. If I were the guy picked to do the announcement, my only fear would be having to read some crazy name.
