Some feared the relationship between Adrian Peterson and Mike Zimmer might have grown strained after this week’s developments, but apparently those fears were unfounded.

According to ESPN’s Ben Goessling, it’s “believed” that Peterson and Zimmer talked this week to clear the air after both made public statements that could have been construed as shots at the other.
On Wednesday, Zimmer made waves when he pointed out in an OTAs press conference that Peterson’s options are limited, saying flat out “he can play for us or play for no one.”
Some took this as a direct blast at Peterson, who is staying away from team activities as part of an on-going contract-related play.
Just hours after Zimmer’s statement, Peterson released his own statement insisting that he is not seeking a trade but simply wants to secure his future, presumably by adding guaranteed money to his contract.
Everything seemed fine at that point, but Peterson rocked the boat again a day later by going on a Twitter rant in which he made vague reference to “changing” his situation.
Though Peterson’s rant was taken as a shot at the Vikings, and possibly a return volley aimed right at Mike Zimmer, Peterson later clarified that he was not slamming the Vikings but the union for failing to secure fully guaranteed contracts like players have in the NBA and MLB.
Ben Goessling’s report, vaguely-worded as it may be, would seem to indicate that Zimmer and Peterson are making an on-going effort to keep the lines of communication open throughout this frustrating situation.
Whether the Zimmer-Peterson relationship ultimately helps resolve this situation for the better…well, that remains to be seen doesn’t it?
